Rising Starr Sophomore
The Rising Starr Sophomore Program (RSSP) was recognized with the Alva C. Cooper Award in 2013. The program was created to encourage students from all majors and interests to gain a head start in their career development while also meeting the increasing demands in the marketplace to identify and develop early leaders.
Sophomores will “Discover and Connect” with the Starr Career Development Center for a full academic year by participating in an intensive leadership development program. While the first year in college is focused on transitioning into college, sophomores can use their second year by maximizing their resources on campus. Sophomores will be given the opportunity to engage in activities that develop their communication, leadership and team work skills.
The program will help students explore major and career interests and prepare them for work and leadership roles by providing a set of interdisciplinary, structured on and off campus learning experiences. Students will engage in programming designed specifically for RSSP. This programming will develop a student’s verbal/communication skills, teamwork, networking skills, time-management, and overall confidence. Many students develop more clarity around the type of work they’d like to pursue.
