What is self-care?
Self-care is any activity we do on purpose to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. Self-care will look different for each person. Self-care can include activities such as: good sleep hygiene, making healthy eating choices, regular exercise, making time to spend with positive and supportive friends and family, creating time for relaxation, making time for a hobby, setting boundaries both professional and personal, journaling, mindfulness practices, practicing self-compassion, spiritual practices etc…
Why is self-care important?
Self-care is essential to our health and wellbeing. It builds resilience which allows us to cope better with life’s challenges. If we don’t prioritize our own self-care we can start to feel exhausted and unable to cope. Practicing self-care allows us time to refuel, giving us more energy for the people and things we care about.
