Influenza (Flu)
Vaccination is Not the Only Way to Help Prevent Influenza
You can still protect yourself and others from influenza even if you are unable to receive a vaccine this influenza season. These simple actions can stop the spread of germs and help protect you and others from getting sick:
- Respiratory Etiquette – Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. You will prevent others from catching your illness.
- Hand Hygiene – Wash your hands often, especially after coughing or sneezing. Alcohol based hand wipes and gel sanitizers also work well.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Sometimes germs are spread when a person touches a contaminated surface and then touches his or her eyes, nose or mouth.
- Stay home when you are sick. This will prevent others from catching your illness.
- Remind your children to practice healthy habits too.
