Creating Accessible Flyers & Newsletters
- Don’t overload the flyer with too much information
- Use actual text rather than images or pictures of text
- Use font that is clear and easy to read
- Don’t use a busy background. If you have to, don’t put important information in that area.
- Use high contrast colors & images
- Label images with alternative text. This feature may or may not be available in the authoring application. If it is available, implementation will vary per application.
- Label hyperlinks in a meaningful way that indicates purpose. This feature may or may not be available in the authoring application. If it is available, implementation will vary per application.
- Bad example of hyperlink: Please visit our website at “https://studentaffairs.baruch.cuny.edu/student-disability-services/” for more information about our office.
- Good example of hyperlink: Please visit our website at “Student Disability Services” for more information about our office.
- Include a note about requesting accommodations for events
- If the authoring tool does not have a way of implementing a particular accessibility feature, the project will have to be exported and made accessible in another format.
