Bridge to Baruch
Program Overview
B2B was created with the specific career needs of the transfer student in mind. Transfers typically enter Baruch during their sophomore or junior years, missing out on crucial time to explore major options and get a jump start on important career development activities like résumé building and interview prep. Because transfer students are understandably taking their first few weeks or months to get used to a new campus and new academic rigors, many miss out on the early-semester recruiting cycle for INTERNSHIPS – a key component of breaking into one’s career of choice. B2B educates transfer students on important recruitment timelines early enough so that they are equipped to hit the ground running and pursue career opportunities as soon as they arrive on campus.
Program Details
The B2B program includes a Pre-Semester Intensive, which consists of three 90-minute workshops offered a few weeks prior to the start of classes – during three weeks in January for the incoming Spring transfer students, and during late July/early August for the incoming Fall transfer students. During the Pre-Semester Intensive, students learn how to prepare their resumes, cover letters and LinkedIn profiles in order to best market themselves for their chosen field. They also learn interviewing, networking skills, and impression management. In addition, they are introduced to a few recruiters during mini-information sessions which take place during the workshops. Finally, they are shown Starr’s resources and receive instruction on how to navigate Handshake, Starr’s career portal, to help them find jobs, internships, and meet with recruiters in their fields of interest.
After the Pre-Semester Intensive, during the first semester at Baruch, participants are encouraged to engage in a series of career development activities. Those who successfully complete all program requirements and obtain an internship are eligible to apply for a $500 stipend. Highly engaged participants are encouraged to serve as B2B Ambassadors where they are asked to share their experiences as transfer students and speak specifically about their experience in the B2B Program with other CUNY students interested in transferring to Baruch in the future.
