We are thrilled that you are interested in joining Peers for Careers. Please read the following information carefully as you begin your application. There are multiple dates and deadlines that you should note. We look forward to reading your application! We recommend you print this page for your records.
Training
Before starting work in the fall, students complete a rigorous training program with experienced career advisors over ten sessions in the spring semester. Topics covered: Career Exploration and Planning, Peer Advisement, Resume and Cover Letter Writing, LinkedIn and Networking, Making Effective Referrals, and Presentation Skills. In the spring semester of their first year as a Peer for Career, students will complete a two-day intensive training to cover interview preparation.

Position Description
Primary Duties
- Conduct individual resume and cover letter reviews, interview preparation, and career advisement
- Understand and be able to teach students resume writing strategies
- Manage student appointments and availability on Handshake platform
- Attend weekly supervision meetings to review cases and work on professional development
- Make appropriate referrals to other departments and resources as necessary
- Join a committee to further advance career development for students, improve program operations, and address other relevant time sensitive matters
- Facilitate and assist with career related presentations, workshops, tabling, and Suits for Success Giveaway
- Be familiar with all aspects of the Baruch Community including important policies, campus resources, student activities, and extracurricular leadership or learning opportunities
- Be aware of FERPA and understand issues of student confidentiality
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Work Requirements
- Students must be able to commit a minimum of 6 hours per week for the semester
- Students must be available to participate in a 1 hour paid supervision meeting weekly
- Students have an additional 10 hours per semester to dedicate to assisting with workshops, presentations, special projects, and other opportunities to support Starr Career Development Center
- Students must participate in Peers for Careers general meetings, professional development workshops, and in-service trainings with staff
Eligibly Requirements
- Maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA (applicants that do not meet the GPA criteria are still encouraged to apply)
- Be in good disciplinary and academic standing with the College
- Successful completion of 10-session training program
- Commit to one full academic year (fall and spring)

Hourly Rate
$16.50/hour
